As we approach the annual retirement season (April 1, 2026 to July 1, 2026), UCOP has advised on the separation processing dates for the 1976 Retirement Tier members retiring on July 1, 2026 with a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).



On July 1, 2026, eligible members who separate on or before June 29, 2026 will

receive an Inactive COLA of 2.00%.

*         Members in the 1976 Retirement tier are eligible for Inactive COLAs

*         The HAPC for the 1976 tier benefit calculation is the highest of two calculations, both

use inactive COLA

*         It is beneficial for 1976 tier members to separate on June 29, 2026 to receive inactive COLA on July 1, 2026



Members in the 2013, 2013 Modified, and 2016 Retirement Tiers are not eligible for inactive COLA upon retirement.



*         Members in these retirement tiers use June 30, 2026 as the separation date and do not require a one-day separation from employment prior to the last day of the month before retirement.



Rehired retirees regardless of tier are ineligible for COLA at retirement:

* Retired members who have suspended their retirement pension income

* Must re-retire immediately after their last workday

* Even members with 1976 tier benefit for both employment periods
