Important Health Benefits Information for Potential Rehired Retirees

DBRs, please share this information via your internal listserv. Please do not reply to this email. Please send a separate email with questions to benefits at ucr.edu<mailto:benefits at ucr.edu>.

If you are thinking about returning to work at UC after retirement, it's important to know that UC has health benefits eligibility rules specific to rehired retired staff and recalled academics, in order to comply with federal regulations. The following information will help to understand how rehire/recall may affect your benefits. In certain circumstances, you will lose medical coverage if you do not take action.
If you do not plan to return to work at UC after retirement, you may disregard this message.
Key takeaways

  * UC has benefits eligibility rules specific to rehired retired staff and recalled academics (collectively, "rehired retirees")
  * UC will assess all rehired retirees for faculty/staff benefits eligibility
  * UC will offer rehired retirees, if eligible, the Mid-level faculty/staff benefits package. Rehired retirees will need to take action to enroll
  * UC will suspend retiree medical enrollment for rehired retirees eligible for both retiree and faculty/staff benefits, and Medicare will no longer be assigned to UC
  * Most rehired retirees will be able to return to retiree medical after a period of time, which varies depending on the appointment date
