Kaiser Permanente - Notifications of Labor Union Strike from 10-04-2023 to 10-07-2023


DBRs please distribute this important information to your internal list serv.

As Kaiser Permanente continues to bargain with the unions within the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions to reach an agreement, they have received formal strike notifications for the Northern California, Southern California, Colorado, Mid-Atlantic and Northwest Regions.  The strike notifications are for a three-day strike beginning 6:00 AM Wednesday, October 4, 2023, and ending 6:00 AM Saturday, October 7, 2023, for most regions.

Should a strike occur:

*       Kaiser hospitals and emergency departments will remain open. Facilities will continue to be staffed, while some non-urgent appointments and elective procedures may be rescheduled or converted to virtual appointments. Members will be contacted in advance if these steps become necessary.



*       In some cases, Kaiser may need to temporarily close or adjust their hours. This could include rescheduling non-emergency and elective procedures or expanding Kaiser Permanente's network to include non-Kaiser Permanente hospitals in the community for members who may need to be redirected or transferred. A Kaiser Permanente physician would continue to follow their patients' care.


*       Pharmacies at Kaiser hospitals and urgent care clinics will remain open for inpatient and critical infusion services. Members are encouraged to use the pharmacy mail order service for prescriptions that can be delivered within 5-7 business days without shipping fees. In markets where there is a pharmacy impact, Kaiser Permanente's network of pharmacy locations will expand to include retail pharmacies that can serve Kaiser's members during a strike.
