Re:         E-mail Alerts from WageWorks for Health FSA Unsubstantiated Debit Card Transactions
Starting February 8, 2021, WageWorks will begin sending e-mail alerts reminding Flexible Spending Account (FSA) members to resolve their pending debit card transactions.


*        The first alert is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, 2021 regarding the 2019 Plan Year.

*        The second alert is scheduled for Thursday, February 11, 2021 regarding the 2020 Plan Year.

For Health FSA participants in the 2019 Plan Year, the pandemic extension rule grants participants extra time to provide documents in support of their unsubstantiated claims. Members will still have an opportunity to resolve any pending debit card transactions. The deadline for submission will be determined after the federal government declares the end of the National Emergency; however, participants are strongly encouraged to resolve pending transactions prior to April 15, 2021, when WageWorks will cease to manage unsubstantiated claims. Discovery Benefits will receive limited historical data about the claims from WageWorks.

Participants in the 2020 Plan Year must resolve unsubstantiated transactions by April 15, 2021. The pandemic extension does not apply to claims for expenses incurred in the 2020 plan year.
Please note that unresolved card transaction amounts from 2019 will be considered taxable income in 2021, and 2020 unresolved transactions will be considered taxable income in 2022.

WageWorks will continue supporting the run-out period that ends on April 15, 2021. After this date, any carryover balances will be transferred to Discovery Benefits. It is anticipated that the carryover fund will be accessible to participants by the middle of May 2021.
