Re:          Extension of UC Contribution for Benefits During Temporary Layoff
The UC Office of the President has announced that for a limited time, UC will extend the employer contribution to benefits for one additional month during Temporary Layoffs.

Currently, the UC contribution towards medical, dental, vision and Basic Life coverage continues for three months for most employees placed on Temporary Layoff (for employees in the EX, TX, RX, PA and PX bargaining units, the UC contribution continues for four months). This policy is temporarily changing to extend the UC contribution to a total of four months for any Temporary Layoff beginning September 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.

Please note that Temporary Layoff is defined in PPSM 60 - Layoff and Reduction in Time from Professional & Support Staff Career Positions<https://policy.ucop.edu/doc/4010429/PPSM-60>, as a layoff that does not exceed a cumulative total of four calendar months in a calendar year and for which there is a specific date to return to work.

Please note that an employee may choose whether to or not continue benefits while on Temporary Layoff - see section 1003.D.4 of the Group Insurance Regulations<https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/tools-and-services/administrators/docs/gir-part-3.pdf> for rules regarding restarting benefits upon return from Temporary Layoff. Campus leave administrators will be responsible for counseling employees who are being temporarily laid off as to what their benefits options are, and provide them with the Benefits Billing Election Form if they wish to make changes to their benefits.
