Greetings from the UCR Student Disability Resource Center and the UCR SDRC Snapshot. The UCR SDRC Snapshot is a periodic newsletter featuring reminders, resources, events, and opportunities from the Student Disability Resource Center.

FINAL EXAM ACCOMMODATIONS
If you have scheduled your final exam accommodations with the SDRC Testing Center, please stay aware of reminder notices about your exam
DATE, TIME, and LOCATION.

The SDRC holds exams in multiple locations during Final Exams.

Please be aware disability specialists' calendars are currently booked through into January. If you need to schedule an appointment to discuss accommodations, disability management, resources, etc. you are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

SDRC Office Hours
for Winter Break 2023
Mon. - Tues. Dec. 18-19, 2023:
SDRC Offices are open with regular business hours.

Wed. - Thurs., Dec. 20-21, 2023:
SDRC Offices are CLOSED for staff in-service training events.

December 22, 2023 - January 1, 2024:
UCR Campus and SDRC Offices are CLOSED for Winter Break.

Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024:
SDRC Offices RE-OPEN for regular business hours.

Monday, Jan. 8, 2024:
Instruction Begins for Winter Quarter.

SDRC Bootcamp Winter
Workshop Series

Are you transitioning to UCR or need a refresher of supports and resources?

The SDRC's team members will offer a series of workshops during Week 1 of the Winter 2024 quarter. All registered students with SDRC are welcome!

Friday, January 5th
Orientation to Services (Option 1)
Time: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

OR

Monday, January 8th
Orientation to Services (Option 2)
Time: 3:00 PM- 4:00 PM
Facilitator: Delmis Sosa
Whether you are new or returning, an Orientation to Services refresher is always helpful. Come join us as we review how to send out letters of accommodations to faculty, schedule tests, and/or ask questions as it relates to accessing approved accommodations.

Tuesday, January 9th
Intro to Tech Tools for Note Taking
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Facilitators: Will Pines
Note taking in the college setting can be intimidating; learn about various methods that can assist with note taking and become acquainted with tech tools that can be helpful for note taking.

Wednesday, January 10th
Mini Time Management Workshop
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Facilitation: Luisana Suchilt
Do you need support with time management or are considering joining the Workshop Series during the quarter? Join us in this mini session to get an overview of the facets of time management and learn a few tips to help you improve your organizational system at the beginning of the quarter.

Thursday, January 11th
Session 4: Self-Advocacy in the College Setting
Time: 3:00 PM- 4:00 PM
Facilitators: Jenny Biggers
Improve your self-advocacy skills as it relates to requesting clarification about course material, communicating disability related information, or addressing concerns.  Additionally, this workshop will help you understand your rights and responsibilities as it relates to accessing SDRC resources during the Winter 2024 quarter.

Work with a SDRC Peer Mentor!

SDRC Peer Mentors are able to assist with navigating today's challenges, offer tips when needed, and provide guidance throughout Winter 2024 quarter and, if requested, throughout the academic school year! A peer mentor has experienced similar challenges as yourself and will be able to help.

Peer mentors have participated in extensive training and will continue to partake in ongoing skills-development training throughout the year.

Our mentors understand the importance of confidentiality and are prepared to direct you to available resources when needed.

The Orion Fund Grant:
Applications Open!

The Orion Fund has grown each year since our beginning in 2004. They now work with over 60 California colleges and universities, to provide grants for college students in medical crisis. In March 2022 they awarded 35 grants to students with health crises from car crashes to cancer at 12 college campuses.

Eligibility:
Students must be 32 and under and enrolled at a California college. We have dedicated grant monies through The Goodwin Family Foundation specifically for young males under the age of 21.

Applications should include the following:
- The Orion Fund application
- A personal essay
- A letter of recommendation from an academic or medical advisor
- Supporting documentation of requested expenses
- Proof of college enrollment (unofficial transcript)

Applications are due Thursday, February 22, 2024,
and grants will be awarded in March/April 2024.

Spotlight on Technology:
Glean Note Taking Tool

Do you have note taking accommodation? Audio record in the classroom?

Glean may be a useful tool in your box of resources.

Glean allows students to record, playback, and add notes at their own pace, as well as encourages returning to notes for further study. View the Glean Explainer Video<https://glean.co/solutions/recommend-glean> to see if this tool may work for you (this video runs for 3 minutes, 16 secs).
