Here are a few upcoming events you be interested in:

Making Activism Accessible
If your activism or programming isn't accessible, it isn't inclusive.  Meet Jenny and Glyn, SDRC Disability Specialists and student organization advisors, where they will discuss how you can identify potential barriers to access and implement methods to make events more accessible and inclusive.  They will go over the meaning of accessibility, the importance of making inclusion part of your culture,  and strategies you can immediately apply for your next program/event.

SDRC Bootcamp: Transitioning to UCR as a Student with a Disability

Description of Sessions:

10:30 AM- 11:00 AM:
Session 1: "I'm Registered, Now What?'
Facilitators: Felicitas Nungaray and Delmis Sosa
Description: Whether you are new or returning, an Orientation to Services refresher is always helpful. Come join us as we review how to send out letters of accommodations to faculty, schedule tests, and/or ask questions as it relates to accessing approved accommodations.

11:00 AM- 11:30 PM
Take a Break with Student Leaders
Description: Come join SDRC Peer Mentors and the student leaders of DAPi Honor Society and the Student Disability Union.  Get to know your fellow peers in an informal setting and ask questions about their experience.

11:30 AM-12:00 PM:
Session 2: Intro to Tech Tools for Note Taking
Facilitators: Jenny Biggers and Will Pines
Description: Note taking in the college setting can be intimidating; learn about various methods that can assist with note taking and become acquainted with tech tools that can be helpful for note taking.

12:30 PM- 1:00 PM:
Take a Break with Student Leaders

Session 3: Self-Advocacy in the College Setting

Description: Improve your self-advocacy skills as it relates to requesting clarification about course material, communicating disability related information, or addressing concerns.  Additionally, this workshop will help you understand your rights and responsibilities as it relates to accessing SDRC resources during the Fall 2022 quarter.

1:45 PM- 2:15 PM
Session 4: Student Panel-Tips and Strategies for a smooth transition to UCR
Moderators: Jenny Biggers and Glyn Wild
Description: Hear from students first-hand about resources/strategies that supported their transition to UCR.

2: 20 PM- 2:45 PM: Wrap Up/Final Questions
Facilitators: Felicitas Nungaray and Jenny Biggers
Description:  Any last thoughts or questions? Join us in closing out the day as we share out additional resources and discuss programming and upcoming events.

Scholarships

Several scholarships for students with disabilities are currently open and accepting applications. The due date for all listed scholarships is August 15, 2022

Molly Adams Scholarship Application 2022-2023

The Molly Adams Scholarship Application<https://forms.gle/Fj849fEKvVP8nGWT6> is due 15 AUG 2022. Scholarship amount to be determined, up to $5000.

Molly Adams Requirements
§  Must have a permanent mental, physical, or learning disability
§  Must be a permanent resident of Riverside or San Bernardino Counties
§  Enrolled Full Time or Part Time
§  Registered with SDRC
§  Continuing UCR Student

Gary Allan Ross Memorial Endowment Book Fund 2022-2023

The Gary Allan Ross Memorial Endowment Book Fund Application<https://forms.gle/EzziQSPTKye8YwLP6> is due 15 AUG 2022. Scholarship amount to be determined, up to $300 in books and supplies.

§  Enrolled Full Time
§  Permanent Disability

Preferred Qualifications
§  3.0 or Higher GPA
§  Submit Budget to include medical expenses

Wilma Holladay Scholarship 2022-2023

The Wilma Holladay Scholarship Application<https://forms.gle/z99uEeXEfR34hLW18> is due 15 AUG 2022. Scholarship is up to $1000.

Wilma Holladay Requirements
§  Registered with SDRC
§  Undergraduate
§  Permanent physical disability
§  Permanent California Resident
§  GPA 3.0 or above
§  Demonstrated need for financial assistance
§  Transfer student (if no eligible transfer student applies, the scholarship will consider a continuing student)
Priority Consideration
§  Enrolled Full Time
§  New Transfer Students (please attached transcripts of previous institutions if you are new to UCR)

Dr. Sonia Blackman Scholarship 2022-2023

The Dr. Sonia Blackman Scholarship Application<https://forms.gle/B4h1G4UZJFm5F5QY6> is due 15 AUG 2022. Scholarship is $975.

Dr. Sonia Blackman Requirements
§  Registered with SDRC
§  Undergraduate or Graduate
§  Merit based on a comprehensive evaluation of an applicant's social and academic achievements
§  Financial need
§  Continuing UCR Student
Priority Consideration
§  Permanent physical disability
§  Enrolled Full Time
§  Students with strong overall met, such as but not limited to GPA, contributions such as holding campus leadership positions, participation in clubs or other activities, advocacy work, service or community commitments, research activities, or other extracurricular or experiential obligations.

Gordon E. Hein Scholarship 2022-2023
