*Senior Banquet* Congratulations Seniors! Please join us on Saturday May,

*Tutoring & Study Tips*

This month will be the last month that tutoring will be offered. UB
Tutoring will officially end May 17th. Please view the tutoring hours for
Academic Mentors Rohllhene Soriano, David Chavez-Barragan and Elizabeth
Benitez. Students are welcome to attend any session they prefer and do NOT
have to stay the entire time.

*About*
*The University of California, Berkeley was founded in 1868 and is
consistently ranked as the No. 1 Public University in America. It currently
has grown to over 45,000 students with approximately 1,500 of faculty and
staff serving over 300 degree programs. Berkeley has 15 schools and
colleges, ranging from Education, Social Welfare, Natural Resources, and
Optometry. Each college at Berkeley holds high academic standards for its
Undergraduate Programs. Thus, being highly selective as its current
admissions rate is 17%. In 2023, 31.4% of those admitted were first
generation students. For the current year of 2023-2024, the estimated cost
of attendance is $46,008 for California residents and $78,582 for
non-residents*

*Student Life*
*UC Berkeley has over 1,000 student groups registered under their ASUC and
Graduate Assembly. Some of the impactful social clubs on campus includes 1G
at Haas, which helps provide for first-generation and/or low-income
students, Hermanas/Hermanas Unidas, and African American Student
Development. They also have 30 teams in the Athletics programs, including
soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Berkeley also offers various housing
options including the Berkeley Student Cooperative which is a nonprofit
that assists students in providing affordable student housing. Overall, the
campus strives to provide students with academic rigor and a welcoming
space for all students to grow academically, personally, and socially.*

UC Berkeley - Just Getting Started

*Career of the Month: Clinical Psychologist*

 *A clinical psychologist meets with clients to provide long-term mental
health-care for individuals, families, couples, and groups. Their daily
duties include interviewing and assessing patients, consulting with mental
health assistants, and planning therapeutic sessions. They test for various
mental, behavioral, and emotional issues. Additionally, they integrate
knowledge and skills from a broad array of disciplines outside of
psychology to help with diagnoses. Clinical psychologists need to have a
proper understanding of psychopathy and mental health across the lifespan,
the ability to assess cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and interpersonal
functioning, and to integrate and synthesize test data with observations,
interviews, and other data sources. Clinical psychologists also need to
understand the establishment and maintenance of therapeutic relationships
and communication with a broad diversity of populations.*

*To obtain this career, psychologists typically need a bachelors and
advanced degrees, such as a master’s or doctoral degree, in psychology. You
must earn a doctoral degree within the field of psychology from an
accredited institution. The degree will include an internship that should
focus on earning a minimum of 1,500 supervised clinical hours. The hours
will vary depending on the program. Candidates are expected to have two to
three years of experience within clinical mental health before undertaking
a Clinical Psychologist role. Many Clinical Psychologists gain experience
in Assistant Psychologist positions. Many Clinical Psychologists also log
practical experience under the supervision of experienced Psychologists
during education.*
