University of California, Santa Barbara, also known as UC Santa Barbara or UCSB, is a public institution that was founded in 1891. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 23,349, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 989 acres. It utilizes a quarter-based academic calendar. UCSB ranked #6 among all public universities in the United States according to the 2021 edition “Best Colleges” guide. Its in-state tuition and fees are $14,391; out-of-state tuition and fees are $44,145.
UCSB lies alongside the beach near the city of Goleta of Santa Barbara. The UCSB Gauchos compete in more than 19 NCAA Division I Sports, and the majority of them compete in the Big West Conference with soccer being the most popular sport. The school has over 500 student organizations, ranging from topics such as environment sustainability, academics and a thriving Greek community. Through the 2&2 program, students are guaranteed housing for all four years if they desire to live on campus. The campus has seven miles of bikeways adjacent to campus and is one of the only campuses in the United States with its own beach!
UCSB includes three undergraduate colleges and offers over fifty master’s or Ph.D programs. Its Gevirtz Graduate School of Education and Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management are especially notable. One UCSB tradition is the Extravaganza Music Festival, which began in 1979 and started as a showcase for local bands. In recent years, famous artists such as Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Drake have all performed on stage. Notable UCSB alumni include the actor Michael Douglas and Benjamin Bratt, musician Jack Johnson and Gold Medalists Jason Lezak and Todd Rodgers who competed in the 2008 Olympics.

Tips for Managing Mental Wellness during the COVID-19 Pandemic:

  * Maintain your physical health– make sure to eat nutritious food, regularly exercise and get a sufficient amount of sleep each day. Even going outside for a walk has proven to have positive effects on mental and physical health!
  * Keep in touch with friends and family virtually– talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling and maintain social connections.
  * Plan small things to look forward to each day– this can be something as simple as ordering your favorite food, going on a walk with your dog or exploring someplace new!
  * Create a schedule– this helps you maintain structure and differentiate between work and down-time.
  * Be kind to yourself. Don’t be hard on yourself for not being as productive or motivated. It is normal to feel stressed or worried during a time of crises. Tell yourself positive affirmations such as reminding yourself how proud you are for getting through each day.
  * Monitor your news and social media consumption– make sure to take breaks from the news and social media to avoid unnecessary worrying.
  * Reach out for help; this can be professionally or with a loved one. Taking care of your mental health is extremely important; sometimes we need some extra help and that is completely normal and okay!
