Many of the old issues of the Journal of the Pali Text Society are now
available online for free.

Here's a list of issues I have been able to download so far:

1882, 1883, 1884, 1885, 1887, 1888, 1889-90 1894-96, 1897-1901, 1904-05,
1906-07, 1908, 1909, 1915-16, 1917-19.

The following issues don't seem to be yet available: 1886, 1891-3, 1902-3,
1910-12, 1913-14, 1920-23, 1924-27.

The next issue after 1927 is 1981 which certainly won't be available for
download for a very long time.

I downloaded most of these journals from archive.org and a couple from
books.google.com. For locating them in archive.org use the search string:
Journal of the Pali Text Society AND 1882 -- to give an example.

I almost have the complete hardbound set of the Journals (except vols. 24,
25, 26 which I will order next year)
