Laos-Thailand, Thailand-Laos train service to commence tomorrow
LAOS, March 4 (KPL) A historical train service between Ban Dongphosy, Hadsaifong district, Vientiane of Laos and Nongkai province of Thailand will be officially inaugurated for public service on 5 February.
Travelers who are heading for Thailand can apply for visa at the immigration service in Thanaleng train station, Ban Dongphosy and then they can board the Nongkai bound train.
Both the Lao and Thai governments agreed to exempt visa for entry by their citizens to one another’s country.
In practice, it means that a Thai citizen just needs to bring his passport and ask for visa at this new international checkpoint and if he does not have a passport he can request for a temporary border pass.
However, for foreign travelers, they can apply for visa from the immigration service’s visa-on-arrival office at the train station in Dongphosy village.
“The fare price is between 50 baht and 20 baht,” said Dr Sombong Pholsena, Deputy Director of Lao Train State Enterprise Company. (KPL)
