Lao-Thai officials finalise details of third Mekong bridge

(KPL) Lao-Thai officials discussed details on the construction of the 3rd Lao-Thai Friendship Mekong Bridge Construction Project on 2 June, such as the construction zone and role of bridge, following its groundbreaking ceremony on 6 March 2009.
An official of Khammuan Public Works and Transport Office told KPL News that two officials in charge of the 3rd Lao-Thai Friendship Mekong Bridge Construction Project, a Lao and a Thai met in Nakhonphanom province, Thailand to discuss the launch of the substantial construction.
Mr Nongsavanh Thammavon, deputy director of public works and transport said that taking into account that the meeting ends amicably then the actual construction would commence this month
This project enjoys full financial funding from the Thai government and it would fork out 1.7 billion baht.On its completion it will provide a seamless road connection between Khammouane province of Laos and Nakhonphanom province of Thailand.
?When construction is being carried out Laos will not have the right to supply any construction material for the Third Lao-Thai Friendship Mekong River Bridge Construction Project because Thailand is in charge of this project?, said Mr Nongsavanh.
However, he added that Laos can supply the labour force for this project and this will benefit Lao nationals.
