CCSEAS 2009 Conference Call for Papers

The Canadian Council for Southeast Asian Studies is pleased to announce
that its biennial conference, Engaging Southeast Asia: Centres and
Peripheries, will be held at The University of British Columbia on
October 15-17, 2009. The keynote address at the conference will be
delivered by Alexander Woodside, UBC professor emeritus and
distinguished historian of Vietnam.

The CCSEAS conference is Canada's largest meeting of researchers
concerned with Southeast Asia and the region's connections with the rest
of the world. The conference will feature leading researchers from
across the country and around the world. We look forward to welcoming
all researchers, students, policy-makers and activists with an interest
in Southeast Asia.

While individual paper proposals will be accepted, the program committee
encourages participants in the conference to organize sessions around
focused research themes. These might take the format of a paper session,
featuring three paper presentations of 15-20 minutes each. Or, they may
take the form of a panel discussion, with up to five panelists giving a
brief presentation and then discussing a specific issue.

The deadline for submission of organized sessions and paper abstracts is
April 1st 2009.

Appel de contribution pour le prochain colloque du CCEASE

Le Conseil canadien des études sur l’Asie du Sud-Est (CCEASE) est
heureux d’annoncer que son prochain colloque bisannuel, intitulé «
L’Asie du Sud-Est : Centres et périphéries », se tiendra à l’Université
de Colombie-Britannique du 15 au 17 Octobre 2009. Le discours
d’ouverture sera effectué par Alexander Woodside, professeur émérite à
l’université hôte et remarquable historien du Vietnam

Les colloques du CCEASE sont l’événement au Canada réunissant le plus
grand nombre de chercheurs travaillant sur la région de l’Asie du
Sud-Est et ses liens avec le reste du monde. Le colloque réunira des
chercheurs de haut niveau provenant du Canada et de nombreux autres
pays. Nous y invitons tous les chercheurs, étudiants, décideurs publics
et activistes ayant un intérêt pour l’Asie du Sud-Est.

Quoique les soumissions individuelles de communications seront
acceptées, le comité organisateur encourage plutôt les participants à
organiser et soumettre des propositions de séances portant sur un thème
de recherche précis. Ces séances peuvent être dédiées à la présentation
de trois recherches, chaque participant se voyant accordé entre 15 et 20
vingt minutes. Elles peuvent également prendre la forme d’un panel de
discussion où un maximum de cinq panélistes feront une brève
présentation puis discuteront d’un thème particulier.

La date limite pour la soumission de communications est le 1er avril 2009.
