Conscientious and analytical researcher with excellent interpersonal and writing skills needed for Research, Training & Evaluation Specialist position in the Audience Research, Training & Evaluation Department, based in Radio Free Asia’s Washington, DC offices.
Responsibilities Include
* Assisting in all aspects of audience research related to designated RFA language services, including survey questionnaire and sample design; selection of programming and web materials for qualitative projects; and editing of audience research reports and presentations.
* Planning and coordinating management process for evaluating radio programming/web materials produced by designated language services.
* Scheduling evaluation meetings, selecting materials for evaluation, identifying and recruiting potential evaluators, helping assure that translated materials are received on-time, managing logistical arrangements for regular 3-hour evaluation sessions and producing written minutes of these sessions. Maintaining records of evaluation outcomes and tracking progress in accomplishing goals.
* Developing and maintaining community and academic contacts to assist in research and evaluation projects.
* Serving as departmental liaison with assigned language services and staying abreast of changes in programming content, personnel, broadcast times, and delivery platforms. Maintaining understanding of developments, current events, and policy issues in targeted audiences of designated language services.
* Providing ad hoc customized analyses and presentations of evaluation materials, quantitative and qualitative data from audience research projects, and internal databases, as assigned.
* Assisting the Department in providing RFA management with research and evaluation information used in strategic planning and communications with the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
* Providing administrative, logistical, and follow-up support to the Department, including arrangements for journalism training programs for designated language services.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree (M.A. preferred) in social science or humanities fields such as Asian Studies, communication studies, history, anthropology, political science, international development or sociology.
* Training in statistics and/or social science research methodology (quantitative and qualitative). Experience using statistical software such as SPSS is preferred.
* Solid English writing and editing skills.
* Knowledge of one of the relevant RFA broadcast languages (Burmese, Lao, Vietnamese, Korean, Uyghur or Tibetan language abilities especially welcomed).
* Understanding of society, history and politics of target areas. Experience living and working in broadcast target countries desired.
* Media experience; skills related to audio editing, Internet traffic metrics, and database analysis all are preferred.
