Sustainable Development

Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand

Rationale

            The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) on September 11, 2006 for the purpose of collaboration in social science research between Thai and Indian researchers. The MOU specifies joint seminars as one of those activities to be organized. In pursuance of this, the first Joint Advisory Committee Meeting in New Delhi on May 4, 2007 agreed to organize the first NRCT – ICSSR Joint Seminar on Sustainable Development in Thailand.

Objectives

1)      To be a forum for discussion and exchange of views and experiences between Thai and Indian social researchers focussing on sustainable development with particular reference to social and cultural dimensions.

2)      To investigate a guideline for collaboration in research on issues of common interest between Thai and Indian researchers.

3)      To develop the body of knowledge in social science research.

Expected Benefits

1)      Useful and practical views and experiences in terms of sustainable development, in social and cultural dimensions in particular.

2)      A guideline for collaboration in joint research between Thai and Indian social researchers.

3)      An incremental body of knowledge in social science research.

Date and Venue

      22 -23 May 2008, at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok.

Seminar Components

1)      Keynote Address

2)      Speakers: six speakers from each side.

3)      The seminar consists of five sessions as detailed in the attached program.

Participants

            Participants will consist of university lecturers / teachers, academics, students and interested persons, approximately 300 - 500 in all.
