I just found a very interesting paper written on Thailand's
Privy Council, called Princes, Politicians, Bureaucrats,
Generals The Evolution of the Privy Council under the
Constitutional Monarchy. This was written by the same author
who wrote 'The King Never Smiles'. It's not too long, only 17
pages and provides a good historical lesson on the Thai Privy
Council. Take notice of pg 8, read carefully who appoints the
new king if the present king doesn't appoint his successor and
pg 11, 'the royal finances'.
