The
Politics Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in Comparative
Politics at the level of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2009. We seek a broadly trained scholar with research and especially teaching
interests involving
the global or comparative study of women and gender politics, and regional
expertise in the Middle East, Africa, and/or the Islamic world. 

 

The 8-member Department of Politics sustains one
of the largest undergraduate majors, with coursework spanning sub-fields and
qualitative methodologies. Teaching
load is currently 3 courses per semester but shifts to 3-2 in 2010.  The successful candidate will offer
introductory courses in comparative and global politics, and advanced level
courses of her or his own devising in areas of expertise, supervise
senior thesis students, and contribute to general education and
interdisciplinary programs as part of a general commitment to the liberal arts. 
Ph.D. completed by date of appointment preferred.  

 

Founded in 1842, as the first University in the
West, Willamette takes full advantage of its location in the heart of the
Willamette Valley, in Salem, across the street from the state capitol, and a
one-hour drive from Portland, Eugene, the Oregon Coast and the Cascade
Mountains.  The 72-acre campus consists
of an undergraduate college of liberal arts together with professional schools
in education, law, and management, and five recently inaugurated Centers for
Ancient Studies and Archaeology; Asian Studies; Religion, Law and Democracy;
Sustainable Communities; and Governance and Public Policy
Research.
