The School of Languages and Cultures, University of Sydney,
enjoys a strong history of research and teaching on Southeast
Asia, and currently works in collaboration with major research
centres such as the Greater Angkor Project and the Australian
Mekong Resource Centre. The School is home to dynamic and
rapidly-expanding honors and postgraduate programs in
Southeast Asian Studies, and promotes a new, innovative
regionally-based interdisciplinary research program.
Applications are invited for a part-time lectureship with the
Indonesian and Asian Studies Programs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching
broad units of study on Indonesia and Southeast Asia and
contributing Southeast Asian components of Asian Studies
subject. Suited to this lectureship is a flexible individual
who is committed to building an exciting program and
passionate about engaging students. The successful applicant
may teach undergraduate and postgraduate coursework units, and
supervise Honors and postgraduate students. In addition, the
appointee will undertake administration and curriculum
development, and demonstrate a willingness and capability to
be involved in the research program. The successful applicant
must have a PhD submitted on commencement, and demonstrable
teaching and research expertise in the study of Asian Studies
and Indonesian Language. Evidence of current research activity
in the field is essential, as will experience teaching at the
undergraduate level. Experience in the supervision of Honors
and postgraduate research students is desirable. This
lectureship offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic
regrowth of Southeast Asian Studies, and to work alongside
colleagues in various fields, depending on research and
teaching interests, from Political Science, Sociology and
Islamic Studies, to Linguistics, History or Archaeology. It
also offers opportunities for internal research funding and
the chance to be part of in-country research programs.
The position is part-time (0.5 FTE) fixed term for 18 months,
subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period
for new appointees. Membership of a University approved
superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new
appointees. Remuneration package: up to $83,363 - $98,993 p.a.
