New Digital Ramayana Available
Several years ago, we released the first complete audio
production of the Ramayana--a dramatic reading in English of
the unabridged Ramayana of Valmiki. Since then, there have
been many requests for a digital version, and now with
additional NEH support, the production has been digitally
remastered and is available in two new digital formats (see
below).
This audio presentation--now the world's longest audio
book--is the first dramatic reading in English of the complete
unabridged Ramayana. Our intention has been to preserve the
original oral tradition of the Ramayana for western listeners
to enjoy. This oral presentation was completed with the
encouragement of key scholars such as Robert Goldman at
UC-Berkeley, who felt there was a need for such a resource.
TWO NEW DIGITAL FORMATS
*DVD AUDIO--The entire 75-hour production is available on
one DVD (with MP3 audio files)---This format is ideal for
download to computer servers, and optional download to an iPod
or other MP3 players-- PRICE: $299. US. Non-Institutional
Introductory price-$129 US.
or
*MP3 CDs--The unabridged Ramayana is also available on 6
MP3 CDs---This format is best suited for playback on
MP3-Capable CD players, or for download to computer-- PRICE: $299.
PLEASE NOTE: With NEH support, this production is available
WITH NO INSTITUTIONAL MARK-UP.
TO LISTEN TO AUDIO SAMPLES OR ORDER ONLINE, GO TO:
http://www.RamayanAudio.com
*The translation used is the excellent version by renowned
Indian journalist, N. Raghunathan, and the production is read
by professional actors. All three volumes of the original
text, including all seven kandas of the Ramayana, are included
in the production.
To support use as a teaching/study resource:
*Each set includes an annotated bibliography outlining
the contents of the entire program.
*Each canto and kanda has its own track on the digital
production, making it very easy to locate and refer to
particular sections.
If you feel this production may be a valuable resource for
yourself, your department, or your university library, please
contact Vedic Audio Knowledge at 1-888-867-4396.
