Call for Papers
Visualizing Culture: The Politics of Community and Citizenship
in Asia
This panel for the 2007 American Anthropological Association
meetings seeks papers that broadly explore the relationship
between the visual and claims for citizenship by marginalized
communities in Asia.
While studies on the politics of citizenship have
traditionally focused on participation in civic and
state-sponsored activities, the influence of the arts and
visual cultures in conferring a sense of belonging remains to
be addressed. The intersection of visual culture and
citizenship can be harnessed to offer a particular vantage
point to analyze the links between access to state
representation, power, and capital for marginalized
communities. Papers that also engage with citizenship in
relation to globalization are particularly welcome.
Please email 250-300 word abstract by Tuesday, March 20 to:
Ritu G.Khanduri: prgk at mail.utexas.edu and Jennifer

from Cambodia into neighboring Vietnam and the intern(s) will
work closely with the Program Development and Communications

organizational capacity to undertake this expansion, as the
internship objective. The intern(s) will concentrate on the
planning and execution of fundraising events and a community

Responsibilities include:
*Plan & coordinate fundraising and other special events
*Work with media to increase community awareness of Golden West.
*Represent the organization in community settings at special
events
*Identify local and national partnership possibilities for
Golden West
*Develop and initiate innovative marketing techniques
*Create event marketing materials such as invitations, and
other related materials
* Attend fundraising meetings and presentations with current
or potential donors
Qualifications:
*Creative and outgoing with outstanding interpersonal
communications skills
*Strong interest in Southeast Asia, international development
and mine action
*Extremely well organized with strong writing skills
*Willingness to learn technical information related to
international development and mine action
*Ability and willingness to work independently and with PDC
Officer
*Demonstrated ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks
*Preferably have experience in event planning, fundraising or
campaign work, and/or other areas of marketing.
This is an unpaid internship, but Golden West can provide
documentation for school credit. Only LA area applicants will
be considered. Internship duration and weekly hours are
negotiable.
