high ranking Army delegation back from Cambodia
(KPL) A high ranking delegation of Lao people’s army led by
Lieutenant General Duangchay Phichit, Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister of National Defence and a delegation returned
home from a 4 day working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
While there, the Lao delegation was warmly welcomed by high
ranking army delegation from Cambodia led by General Tea Banh,
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of
Cambodia.
The sides shared experience on the past co-operation and
informed each other on their respective country situation.
They agreed to further their co-operation in the future,
especially in the field of border survey and demarcation. On
this occasion, Mr Duangchay also paid a courtesy visit to
Prime Minister Hun Sen, where he informed him about the
results of the working session between his delegation and
Cambodian counterpart.
Mr. Hun Sen praised and high valued the visit to Cambodia of
Lao delegation as a big contribution to strengthening the
traditional friendship relation and co-operation between Laos
and Cambodia, especially between the two country army.
Mr. Duangchay also paid a courtesy call on to the first Vice
President of Cambodian National Assembly, and visited the
military school of Cambodia.
Truong Tan Sang winds up Laos visit
(KPL) Mr. Truong Tan Sang, member of the Communist Party of
Vietnam’s Political Bureau and standing member of the Party
Central Committee’s Secretariat, and a delegation left here on
22 July for Vietnam, winding up seven days official visit to Laos.
The official seeing –off ceremony took place at the Government
Guest House with the participation of the Standing Deputy
Prime Minister Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad and Vietnamese
Ambassador to Laos Mr Nguyen Huy Quang and other high ranking
Lao officials.
While in Laos, Mr. Truong and his delegation paid a courtesy
visit to other Lao Party and Government leaders, attended a
ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos
Friendship and Co-operation Treaty and the 45th anniversary of
the diplomatic ties between Laos and Vietnam
He has also attended the meeting to celebrate the two
historical days, visited some cultural, social-economic
development sites in Vientiane capital, Khammouane,
Champassak, Oudomsay and Luangnamtha.
Mini – marathone held to celebrate 10th anniversary of Lao in
ASEAN
(KPL) The ministry of foreign affairs in collaboration with
Vientiane authorities organised on 21 July in Vientiane a
mini-marathon to mark the 10th anniversary of Lao PDR in ASEAN
and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Asean.
The mini-marathon started from Patuxy to the Presidential
palace, returning to the Monument Park. Mr. Phongsavat Boupha,
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Karen Tan, Ambassador
of Singapore to Laos and representatives from international
organisations and officials participated in the walk.
This was a part of activities made by Lao government to
celebrate the 40th founding anniversary of ASEAN and 10th
anniversary of Laos in ASEAN.
Gender role promoted for economic planning
(KPL) The Committee for Planning and Investment organised on
20 July in Vientiane a symposium on gender role to promote the
social-economic development plan.
Mrs. Silivanh Khonpathane, Director General of National
Economic Research Institute said the main objective of this
function aimed to make the technical workers and researchers
of institute understand the role of the gender and support
them to work together with men to develop the nation.
The symposium was financial supported from Concern Worldwide
Organisation.
Somsavath Lengsavad receives Thai business delegation
(KPL) Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad, Standing Deputy Prime Minister
received on 21 July at his office in Vientiane a courtesy
visit from Mr. Athirek Siprathak, Chairman of the
Chaleunnphokaphan Food Processing Limited LTD of Thailand.
At the talk, Mr Somsavat congratulated the visit to Laos of
the delegation as a part of contribution to enhance the
relation and co-operation between Laos and Thailand,
especially between the business sectors of the two countries.
He also informed his guest about the economic situation in
Laos which is now the government of Laos is opening up the
door to promote the foreign investment.
The Thai delegation arrived Vientiane for signing the land
concession agreement and Dongpang Farm leasing and to attend
the opening ceremony for animal feed production factory.
On this occasion, Mr Athirek also expressed thanks to Mr.
Somsavat for his warm welcome and informed him about his
activities in Laos.
Phongsavanh pleases its customers with ATMs
(KPL) Phongsavanh Bank has cooperated with Dieblod
and Postilion to implement ATM-POS Switching System including
100-Opetva automatic teller machine (ATM) deployment valued
approximately US$ 2.4 million to bring conveniences to its
customers.
The contract was signed on 20 July in Bangkok by Managing
Director of Phongsavanh Bank Mr Pual Freer, Regional Director
of Postilion Asia Mr Timothy Cha, and Managing Director of
Diebold (Thailand) Mr Verapun Patanayindee.
“These AMT machines will be installed at branches across the
country within the period of three years,” said Marketing
Director of Phongsavanh Bank Mr Bounthavy Deenavong.
“The Bank is also looking forward to opening more branches in
Vientiane, Savannakhet, Champassak and Luang Pabang,” Mr
Bounthavy added.
The instantly recognisable Windows-based Opteva machines have
the large 15.1 inch LCD colour screens, enabling the screen to
be easily viewed in any lighting conditions, from bright
sunlight to pitch dark.
Other major consumer benefits of these technologies also
include fast transaction,
reducing queuing time, as well as better printing facilities
for customers’ record transaction.
The ATM-POS implementation project driven by an advanced
international switching system from Postilion enables the ATMs
to interface with its core banking system.
The ATMs will be deployed around the country as the Bank
builds its branch network. The Bank intends to have at least
one branch in each province across the country within a period
of three years before turning its attention to building an
international presence with countries that can demonstrate
strong trading ties with the Lao PDR.
The Postilion interface will also allow Phongsavanh to deploy
EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) terminals
which in turn will allow all Phongsavanh Bank card holders to
purchase goods and services without need for cash.
Oudomsay Governor visits Baeng district to boost poverty reduction
(KPL) Mr. Bounpone Boutha-navong, Secretary General of
Oudomsay province’s Party Committee recently visited and
talked to people at Ban Phouluang, Baeng district to boost the
agricultural production.
Mr. Bounpone who is also Governor of Oudomsay province was
briefed about the social-economic development in the village
by its chief.
Mr. Bounpone praised achievements made by the village in the
past few years. He also asked and learned about the situation
of rice farming and their living conditions, health, security
and others.
He also stressed on the concern of the Party and State over
ethnic people and called on them to unite and materialize 8th
Party Congress resolution.
Oriented agriculture production keys on reduce poverty
(KPL) The oriented agriculture production activity is a vital
key of the Government on the poverty reduction, said Oudomxay
Governor, Mr Bounpone Bouttanavong.
Oudomxay Governor, Mr Bounpone gave an advice to villagers in
Phouluang village, Pakbeng district, Oudomxay province to pay
attention to their agriculture production for market sale that
was a way make local farmers to generate income to their families.
He added that villagers should stop slash and burn cultivation
practices and should pay attention to crops plantation and
animal raising for market sale. Along with preservation of
non-timber forest products and effective use of natural
resources, particularly tea natural plantation which is a
forest resource to generate income to localities.
He urged villagers to contribute to the national security,
defence and construction activities and traditional solidarity
keeping among people and disease prevention during rainy season.
Miss Lao dreams of walking international stage may become true
(KPL) The Lao girls’ dream of walking on Miss Universe’s stage
may become true by selecting at the National Beauty Contest
before going to international stage, said an official.
Mrs Soudala Chanthavithong, Deputy Chief of Media and Culture
Department, Lao Women’s Union, spoke at a press conference on
2007 Miss Apone Lao Beauty Selection Contest last Friday.
The 2007 Miss Apone Lao Beauty Contest Project is a part of
disseminating the Lao culture to outdoor and promoting
valuable culture as much as possible.
The previous contest has been held by the Lao Women’s Union
and the K & C Company.
The project is running till 2010.More than 50 people from Lao
Media, representatives of Lao Brewery Company, K&C Company,
Lao Women’s Union took place at the press conference on 2007
Miss Apone Lao Beauty Selection Contest, under the sponsorship
of the Lao Brewery Company.“
Once day we do hope that Lao girls’ dream may become true if
all of them are supported by society, however they must be
self-confident with knowledge, ability of performances and
talent, all of them should be the first thing before reaching
achievement,” said Mrs Soudala.
Meanwhile observers believed that Miss Apone Lao Contest
Project is very important to the economic and social
development involve in entertainment, fashion or even dressing
style and to raise the reputation of country to overseas.
The 2nd round of 2007 Miss Apone Lao Beauty Selection held in
early this month, as a result has already got 50 girls out of
350 candidates across the country.
The 2007 Miss Apone Lao Selection Contest was co-hosted by
four provinces of Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang,
Savannakhet and Champassak provinces to search the most
beautiful Lao girls.
