Professional Position: Librarian for Southeast Asian Studies, UCLA
Department: Collections, Research & Instructional Services

The UCLA Library’s Collections, Research & Instructional
Services (CRIS) Department seeks a creative, collaborative,
flexible, and forward-thinking individual for a position that
will coordinate collection development and management
activities and provide specialized research services and
information literacy sessions to students and faculty in the
area of Southeast Asian Studies and one or two additional
disciplines in the social sciences or humanities.
Required Qualifications
§ ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information
Science OR significant graduate-level course work toward such
a degree OR equivalent education and experience.
§ Graduate-level study, or equivalent experience, in the
humanities or social sciences relating to Southeast Asia.
§ Demonstrated knowledge of the culture, literature, and
history of Southeast Asia.
§ Command of at least one of the following languages:
Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, or Tagalog.
§ Strong commitment to providing reference and instructional
services in an academic library setting.
§ Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with personal
computers and software, the Web, and library-relevant
information technology applications.
§ Working knowledge of standard computer office applications
such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint or
other productivity software.
§ Excellent analytical, organizational, time, and project
management skills.
§ Excellent oral and written communication skills and
interpersonal skills.
§ Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively
both as a team member and independently and to promote
teamwork among colleagues.
§ Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment
and workplace and ability to work with a diverse student and
faculty population.
§ Capacity to thrive in the exciting, ambiguous,
future-oriented environment of a world-class research
institution and to respond effectively to changing needs and
priorities.
§ Strong interest in local or national committee work in
professional organizations, research, publication, etc.
Desired Qualifications
§ Experience in collection development and management in an
academic library.
§ A solid understanding of research needs and the organization
of scholarly literature.
§ Knowledge and understanding of the economics of scholarly
publishing and issues in scholarly communication.
§ Knowledge of more than one vernacular language.
§ Reading knowledge of Dutch, French, or German.
§ Collection development experience or coursework in one or
two additional fields in the social sciences or humanities.
§ Experience with the design, provision and evaluation of
information literacy programs for upper division and graduate
students.
§ Commitment to providing excellent public services in an
academic or research library.

Assistant Professor Position in History
(Diaspora/Cross-Cultural Studies)
Wheaton College
As part of a college-wide search involving multiple
departments, the History Department at Wheaton College seeks a
tenure-track assistant professor with scholarly and teaching
expertise in Diaspora/Cross-Cultural Studies. The search
solicits applicants in many disciplines, the successful
candidate will be appointed to one department. The History
Department is especially
interested in candidates who study Indian Ocean and/or western
Pacific Rim diasporas. Period of specialization open.
Candidate must be able to teach in Wheaton's general
curriculum as well as introductory and advanced courses on
both "sending" and "receiving"areas of diaspora. Those with
expertise in Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Persian Gulf,
and/or sub-Saharan Africa are particularly encouraged to apply.

Assistant Professor of Asian History
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Tenure-track position begins August 2007. Specialty anywhere
in Southeast, South, or East Asia, except Japan. Must be
prepared to teach a variety of courses on Asian history,
including regional surveys and advanced courses related to
expertise. Ability to also offer courses in United States
history highly desirable. A strong commitment to and
experience in undergraduate teaching essential. Ph.D. in hand
by start date.
Professional development is expected and actively supported
Competitive salary (low 50s). U.S. News and World Report ranks
Rose-Hulman first among U.S. engineering colleges that do not

Assistant Professor of History
University of Massachusetts Boston
The Department of History at the University of Massachusetts
Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professorship to begin in September 2007 in the history of
South Asia, Southeast Asia, and/or the Indian Ocean. Period
and area of specialization are open, although we particularly
encourage candidates whose work is broadly comparative or
transnational. The successful candidate will be expected to
teach undergraduate and graduate courses as well as to engage
with the University's growing Asian Studies program. Please
