[Campus Notice] Upcoming Changes to the Admin VPN Portal Access

Dear ITS Staff,

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 10:00 pm, the ITS Network Engineering &
Operations team will migrate ITS Admin VPN clients to the new Admin VPN.
This change supports the upcoming migration of campus VPNs to SAML for Duo
multifactor authentication, which will take place on May 17, 2026.
What to Expect From the VPN Migration

   -

   Prior to May 17, ITS Admin VPN users will need to update their Cisco
   Secure Access (Anyconnect) VPN portal from vpn.ucr.edu to
   vpn.ucr.edu/adminvpn to use the “netid-admin” elevated access. This is
   required because the SAML integration for Duo does not currently sync
   netid-admin accounts.

After the migration you will need to reconnect to the Admin VPN. You will
see “VPN_AdminVPN_Profile” returned when your client successfully
authenticates.

   Both vpn.ucr.edu and vpn.ucr.edu/adminvpn will continue to work until
   May 17. After the campus VPNs migrate to SAML on May 17, only
   vpn.ucr.edu/adminvpn will work and ITS Admin users will no longer be
   able to authenticate to vpn.ucr.edu with their netid-admin credentials.
