Key Takeaways:
-
The assigned alumni storage quota
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0012202>
of 10.00 GB will be enforced on your account on January 31, 2025.
-
Take action now to clean up your storage and secure your important
data before
the 10.00 GB limit is applied to your R’Mail account.
-
If your account exceeds 10.00 GB of storage use as of January 31, 2025,
it will be reset to adhere to the University’s cloud storage policy
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0012202>.
The reset process permanently deletes all data stored within the account.
Dear UCR Highlander,
You are receiving this email because your UC Riverside R’Mail (Google
Workspace) account will have a new storage quota of 10.00 GB effective
January 31, 2025. The new storage quota is applied to your R’Mail account,
which includes Email, Calendar, Drive, Photos, etc.
Alumni Storage Limits
A 10.00 GB storage quota is applied to alumni one year after their degree
is conferred in the Banner Student Information System. Your degree
conferment date is tied to your graduation date. Alternatively, this quota
may be applied if another policy placed on your account has ended (i.e.
staff, faculty).
To remain in compliance with Google and Microsoft’s new online storage
models
<https://its.ucr.edu/blog/2023/11/06/upcoming-changes-storage-email-and-calendar-services>,
it is necessary for the university to implement storage quotas on all UCR
accounts.
Action Required to Preserve Important Files
As the 10.00 GB alumni storage quota will be applied to your account soon,
you are strongly encouraged to take action now to export any files,
folders, email attachments, or pictures you wish to keep. It is important
to note that the time it takes to export data is based on the size of the
data being exported, so please plan accordingly if you have a large amount
of data.
Important Considerations
While all UCR alumni are entitled to retain access to their R’Mail account,
if your account exceeds 10.00 GB of storage use as of January 31, 2025,
your account will be reset to adhere to the University’s cloud storage
policy
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0012202>.
This process permanently deletes all data stored within the account. It is
critical to note that there is no way to recover the data once it’s been
deleted and, as a result, UCR will not be able to assist you with this
matter.
Moreover, if the 10.00 GB limit is reached after the new quota has been
applied to your account, you will not be able to add or edit data, which
may impact the ability to send and receive email attachments. You are
strongly encouraged to follow the actions outlined below to clean up your
data and ensure that important information is not lost.
Resources & Support
To prepare for this change, please review the data you are currently
storing and practice diligent storage hygiene. Here are helpful tips to
manage your UCR data storage:
