Key Takeaways:
-
Beginning December 2, 2024, multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be
required on your UCR student employee email account. This will help ensure
UCR meets new UC information security requirements
<https://its.ucr.edu/cybersecurity-mandate-2025> by the deadline, as
mandated by the UC President.
-
This change means that every time you log into secure UCR resources,
including your student employee email, you will be required to verify your
identity with a personal device.
-
Set up Microsoft Authenticator

to continue accessing your UCR student employee email account come December
2024. Once the change is applied, you will need to authenticate your
login upon signing in to a secure UCR resource.
Dear Highlander,
You are receiving this notice because of a planned security update for UC
Riverside email resources. In direct response to the UC Cybersecurity
Mandate <https://its.ucr.edu/cybersecurity-mandate-2025>, UCR is further
securing its email resources by implementing multi-factor authentication
(MFA) on all accounts. The change will happen December 2, 2024.
What This Change Means for You
Identity verification via MFA will be added as an extra layer of security
on your UCR student employee email account. This means that every time you
log into email and other secure UCR resources, you will be required to
authenticate your login with a registered personal device.
Action is Required
To access your student employee email account in Microsoft Outlook after
MFA is enabled, you will need to set up Microsoft Authenticator. For
step-by-step guidance on setting up Microsoft Authenticator, read the ITS
knowledge article
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0012268>
.
If you believe you received this email in error because you already use MFA
to access your UCR student employee email account, please disregard this
message. If you have questions or concerns about the upcoming change, or if
you need assistance in accessing your email account, please call BearHelp
support at (951) 827-4848 (Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm).
