Key Takeaways:
-
Beginning December 2, 2024, multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be
required on your UCR email account to help ensure UCR meets new UC
information security requirements
<https://its.ucr.edu/cybersecurity-mandate-2025> by the deadline, as
mandated by the UC President.
-
This change means that every time you log into secure UCR resources,
including your email, you will be required to verify your identity with a
personal device.
-
Enroll in MFA now to continue accessing your UCR email account come
December 2024. Once the change is applied, you will need to authenticate
your login upon signing in to a secure UCR resource.
Dear Highlander,
You are receiving this notice because you may be affected by a planned
security update for UC Riverside email resources. In direct response to the UC
Cybersecurity Mandate <https://its.ucr.edu/cybersecurity-mandate-2025>, UCR
is further securing its email resources by implementing multi-factor
authentication (MFA) on all accounts. The change will happen December 2,
2024.
What This Change Means for You
Identity verification via MFA will be added as an extra layer of security
on your UCR email account. This means that every time you log into email
and other secure UCR resources, you will be required to authenticate your
login with a registered personal device.
Action is Required
It is necessary to enroll your devices (e.g., smartphone, tablet) in MFA so
you can authenticate your login and continue to access secure campus
resources, including your UCR email account. To initiate your MFA
enrollment, follow these steps:
1.
Visit its.ucr.edu/mfa-enrollment and enter your UCR NetID and password
to sign in.
2.
After logging in through CAS, you will be prompted to proceed to
MyAccount to complete your MFA enrollment. Click “Continue” to be
redirected to MyAccount.
3.
Follow the instructions in the ITS knowledge article
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0010310>
beginning in Step 2 to complete your MFA enrollment.
If you believe you have received this email by mistake because you already
use MFA to access your UCR email account, please disregard this message. If
you have questions or concerns about the upcoming change, please call
BearHelp support at (951) 827-4848.
We appreciate your partnership as UCR strengthens its information security.
Implementing robust MFA on all accounts is one of the key steps in UCR’s
security plan to meet the new UC-wide cybersecurity requirements. To learn
more about these requirements and the role you play in helping us better
protect our campus, please visit the UC Cybersecurity Mandate 2025 webpage
