Dear all,

Happy (Gregorian calendar) new year! I hope 2026 is off to a great start
for you all.

December was a blur—and January is looking to be the same—so this is a
short and sweet update to plug a few very exciting things happening this
month and next:

- It's here! Make sure to register for the 2026 *virtual Eaton Symposium*
<https://events.ucr.edu/event/2026-virtual-eaton-symposium>*,* taking
place this *Thursday, January 8th, 10am-4pm PT*, featuring a keynote
conversation with Ken Liu, conversations with SF editors, and presentations
from local curators and scholars. Bring your burning questions for our
speakers, as there'll be time for audience Q&A in every session!

- We're on TV! The *SF episode of PBS' 'Lost LA' series
<https://www.pbssocal.org/shows/lost-la> is premiering Tuesday, January
13th at 7.30pm*. The episode heavily features the Eaton stacks and
materials, as well as other wonderful SF repositories, so be sure to mark
your calendars.

- One more thing for your calendars: *February 17th, 5.30pm-7pm*, I'm
delighted to host award-winning author and *UCR Distinguished Professor
Laila Lalami <https://profiles.ucr.edu/app/home/profile/lailal> for a
conversation on her newest book, The Dream Hotel,* in the Special
Collections reading room, on the fourth floor of the Rivera Library. Copies
of the book will be available for purchase and signing, so be sure not to
miss that.

More soon! May your inboxes be merciful, your reviewers kind, your students
engaged, and your professors generous.

Warmth and light,

Phoenix
