<div dir="ltr">Dear all, <div><br></div><div>I hope you had a lovely Spring Break! </div><div><br></div><div>This month I attended the <b>International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts</b>, in Orlando, March 18-22nd, and met with writers and publishers to discuss special collections matters. Unfortunately, the airports were a crush, so do take care if you're traveling anytime soon, and leave plenty of time to get through security! </div><div><br></div><div>Just a couple of new acquisitions this month: </div><div><br></div><div>- about twenty back issues of <b>Rowrbrazzle</b>, which filled gaps in our holdings</div><div><br></div><div>- <b>The Star Trek Guide</b> (1967), a second copy of this item, albeit with additional materials such as schematic illustrations, character bios, and a small zine collection. </div><div><br></div><div>Next month marks the centenary of Amazing Stories—the magazine that arguably cemented the genre of English-language science fiction as we know it today—and to commemorate it, I'm curating a <b>pop-up exhibit, 'A Century of Amazing Stories</b>,' that will be installed on the <b>first floor of Rivera Library</b> (turn left as you enter!) It features landmark issues of the magazine, and will run from <b>April 6-26th</b>. I'm working with colleagues in the <a href="https://library.ucr.edu/research-support/making-and-innovation/creatr-lab-makerspace">Creat'R Lab</a> to put together a virtual version of the exhibit; more information on that in next month's update. </div><div><br></div><div>Of course, don't forget to come up to Rivera's fourth floor and see the current, permanent exhibit, '<b>Neon in the Gutters: Cyberpunk Visions of the Future</b>,' and pick up some free comics from our reading library while you're there. </div><div><br></div><div>That's all for this month. Take care!</div><div><br></div><div>Warmth and light, </div><div><br></div><div>Phoenix </div><div><br></div><div><div><u style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,0)">Recommended book of the month:</u><span style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,0)"> Christopher Caldwell, <b><i>Call and Response: Stories of the Fantastic</i></b><span class="gmail-Apple-converted-space"> </span>(2025)</span></div><font color="#888888"></font></div></div>
