Dear all,
Happy May Day! May (ha) you celebrate International Workers, the
official beginning of Summer, and, of course, this diva
<https://pokemon.fandom.com/wiki/May>.
I was on vacation for most of April, so this email will be
mostly (excitedly) yelling about new arrivals to the Eaton. Let's get into
it:
- Firstly, I'm absolutely thrilled to say that *we now have access to the
digital archive of Osamu Tezuka, the legendary manga artist and animator*:
https://tezuka.mymanga365.com/newtezuka/main/collection. Texts are
available in both English and Japanese!
- The *Bruce Boston <https://sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/boston_bruce>
archive* I mentioned back in January has safely arrived in Special
Collections! It may take us a while to process it, so keep a look out for
future updates. Boston was a notable SF poet, and was the first poet to be
honoured by the Science Fiction Poetry Association as its Grandmaster.
We're honoured, in turn, to have his papers with us.
- A complete run, just two issues, of the* scarce SF semiprozine, **Darkling
Plain*
<https://sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/darkling_plain_speculative_fiction>
(2000-2001)
- Two issues of another scarce SF semiprozine, *LC-39*
<https://sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/lc-39> (1999-2000)
- A collection of *Sime/Gen zines: A Companion in Zeor, Ambrose Zeor!, *and
*Zero Forum*. (Sime/gen refers to a science fictional literary universe
created by the author Jacqueline Lichtenberg)
- The latest issues of *Rowrbrazzle* have arrived
- Melinda Gebbie, *Melinda Gebbie's Greatest Fits* (Knockabout Publishing,
2025). A signed, limited edition of a volume that serves as a
"retrospective art book that highlights Gebbie's underground comics and
pioneering feminist work"
...and we're lucky enough to have the artist *Melinda Gebbie herself speak
at UCR in a hybrid online/in-person event on May 12th, 10-11.30am*! RSVP
via this website
<https://events.ucr.edu/event/melinda-gebbies-greatest-fits-feminism-art-culture-in-comix?utm_campaign=widget&utm_medium=widget&utm_source=UC+Riverside>
.
Have a wonderful weekend, and a wonderful May!
Warmth and Light,
Phoenix
*Recommended book of the month:* Ian McEwan,* What We Can Know* (2025)
