Dear all,
I hope you all had a relaxing Spring Break!
It's been a hectic March over here. ICFA was fantastic—I had very productive meetings with potential donors to the Eaton Collection—and planning for the Nebula Awards Conference, taking place this July, is in full swing.
There've also been a ton of newly-acquired materials arriving, including:
*
Poppy Z. Brite, A Little Purple Book of New Orleans Stories (2015). A signed, limited-edition anthology from the iconic horror author.
*
Neal Stephenson, Atmosphaera Incognita (2015). Signed, limited-edition.
*
Damian Murphy, The Imperishable Sacraments (2015). A limited edition, illustrated by Charles Schneider.
*
Mary Anderson, A Son of Noah (1893). A first edition of a rare, feminist Biblical reimagining with prehistoric sci-fi elements.
*
Ali Nar, Uzay çiftçileri: Ütopik roman. [Space farmers: A utopian novel], (1988). Turkish science-fiction about an Islamic utopia.
*
Over 150 manga graphic novels from the 1970s-2000s, including such titles as Oh my Goddess!, Battle Angel Alita, Usagi Yojimbo, and many more.
Finally, a shout-out to two upcoming events:
*
the unmissable Eaton Conference, taking place this Friday and Saturday April 4th & 5th at UCR/online! Sign up here if you haven't already: Eaton Conference on Speculative Fiction - UC Riverside<https://events.ucr.edu/event/eaton-conference-on-speculative-fiction>
*
yours truly is participating in an online reading with authors A.D. Sui and Jenna Hanchey<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/flash-science-fiction-night-jenna-hanchey-ad-sui-phoenix-alexander-tickets-1287873417059?aff=ebdsoporgprofile>, hosted by the amazing Space Cowboy Books, on April 29th, 6-6.30pm (PT).
I hope to see you at one/both of those events!
Have a wonderful month, and warmth and light,
Phoenix

We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
