Dear all,
Another late update for August - my apologies!
Last month saw me attend and present at WorldCon in Glasgow, which was followed by a vacation, so I hope those are good excuses for my tardiness. Scotland is glorious, and WorldCon was a blast, and included many exciting meetings with potential donors.
New arrivals to the Eaton Collection include:
*
Pedro Iniguez, Mexicans on the Moon: Speculative Poetry from a Possible Future (2024). Weaving science-fiction, Mexican folklore, and magical realism, this 50-poem collection explores the wonders and pitfalls of humanity in a future yet to come.
*
Jean-Paul Garnier, Cardboard Spaceship: a Short Story Collection (2024)
*
New fanzines including B7, Brother of Shadows... And Son of the Light, Last Stand at the Edge of the World, Mascarada, Shadowplay, and more.
*
Margaret Wander Bonnano, unpublished manuscripts: The Vulcan Alternative (1982), Spock's Guide to Vulcan (1983).
*
Strangers from the Sky (1987)
*
Strangers from the Sky audio cassette, recorded by George Takei and Leonard Nimoy
Finally, a date for your calendars: on October 3rd from 6pm-8pm, I'll be moderating a panel discussion with authors Brent Lambert, Micaiah Johnson, and Ryka Aoki at USC's Fisher Museum of Art, on the theme of Radical Imagination: Queer Stories through Sci-Fi Storytelling. Following the conversation, attendees are invited to enjoy a reception, book signings, and the galleries of the USC Fisher Museum of Art.

That's all for this month, folks. Stay cool and safe, and, as always, warmth and light!

We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
