Dear all,
To quote Tolkien's iconic character, Gandalf the Grey: "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to." The same cannot be said of librarians, sadly.
Nevertheless: join me in pretending it's still September for this update! And what an update it is.
I'll start with the biggest piece of news: I'm *so* delighted to share that authors Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due have completed their first donations of archival materials to the Eaton Collection, where their individual archives will be housed and continue to grow in the coming months! As I'm sure you already know, Barnes and Due are legendary figures in the field of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, and we're honored to steward their archives.
Their materials may be viewed at the finding aids linked below, and I'll post more updates as more materials are processed!

In other exciting news, one of the two PBS documentaries featuring Eaton materials is now live: Judy-Lynn Del Rey: The Galaxy Gal, which features many images from the Jay Kay Klein photographs and papers on science fiction fandom<https://calisphere.org/collections/26943/>. Watch it at this link: American Masters | Judy-Lynn del Rey: The Galaxy Gal | PBS<https://www.pbs.org/video/judy-lynn-del-rey-3q6lsp/>
Wearing my other hat of Editor-in-Chief of Vector: the Journal of the British Science Fiction Association, I'm currently seeking articles for our next issue on 'the future of food.' Food scholars, rise up! The CfP is at the following link; please submit, and share widely: Issue 301, ‘The Future of Food’—Call for proposals (vector-bsfa.com)<https://vector-bsfa.com/2024/09/14/cfp-the-future-of-food/>
And finally: if you're in LA tomorrow, come join me in conversation with three wonderful contemporary SF/F authors (Brent Lambert, Micaiah Johnson and Ryka Aoki) at USC'S Fisher Museum of Art! That's all for now! As always, feel free reach out with any research/acquisition/teaching questions at any time.
"Though she be tardy, she be substantial" — also Gandalf, probably.
Warmth and light,
Phoenix

We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
