Dear all,

Happy Turkeyday Eve!

Today I am thankful for sending the update email in the correct month getting to work with and promote the magnificent riches of the Eaton Collection each and every day here at UCR.

Another short and sweet update as we wind down towards the end of the year — starting with some very exciting new arrivals:

  *
Nalo Hopkinson sent us another box of materials to add to her archive here<https://oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/c8v411jm/entire_text/>. It's not yet processed, but I can share that the materials included annotated manuscripts, notes, and sketches. Stay tuned for more info!

  *
Anonymous, Excursions of a Spirit; with a Survey of the Planetary World: A Vision (1821). An early cosmological and utopian narrative, including four folding illustrated plates.

I'm reupping not one, but two CfPs:

  *
the first for the return of an in-person Eaton Conference, scheduled for April 4th-5th, 2025! 24-25 Conference CFP.pdf - Google Drive<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AVXufNHQQFN00hrpVBOOsl2jMpv5-_ss/view>. The deadline is approaching soon, so do get your panel/paper ideas in.

  *
the second for the next issue of Vector: the Journal of the British Science Fiction Association: Issue 301, ‘The Future of Food’—Call for proposals (vector-bsfa.com)<https://vector-bsfa.com/2024/09/14/cfp-the-future-of-food/>

Finally, do make sure to register (for free!) for the virtual Eaton Symposium, taking place on January 8th: 2025 Virtual Eaton Symposium Tickets, Wed, Jan 8, 2025 at 9:00 AM | Eventbrite<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2025-virtual-eaton-symposium-tickets-1080463267719?msockid=2118389e080a696b06ac296d09b968e2>. Our keynote speakers are Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due, and we have an amazing line-up of authors, editors, and SF community members on our panels!

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday break — and see you in December.

Warmth and light,

Phoenix

We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
