Dear all,
I hope you're staying safe and cool—and happy belated Pride month!
The gays (including this one) are always busy in June, so this email is sneaking in a little late again—but lots of things have been going on in SCUA, including the filming of a super-exciting documentary project that I hope to be able to announce in the next few months!
I'll start with the June additions to the Eaton Collection:
*
Materials from screenwriter Kenneth Johnson, including DVD, VHS, novel and script copies of his film and television work. These cover such franchises as V: The Original Miniseries, Alien Nation, The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk, and many more!
*
An almost-complete digital run of Dreams and Nightmares poetry zine.
*
A huge collection of RPG game manuals from the 1980s-present, including such franchises as Dungeons and Dragons, Werewolf, Shadowrun, and Vampire: the Masquerade, among many others.
*
Additions to our Harlan Ellison and Morris Scott Dollens archival collections (letters from the former and photographs of the latter).
The Nebula Awards were a blast, as was Mini Comic Fest, which took place the Saturday just gone (6/29). I had the privilege of meeting some really exciting creators, including the Riverside-based <https://shoutoutla.com/meet-sebrae-harris-animator-mangaka-artist-entrepreneur/> artist and comic creator <https://shoutoutla.com/meet-sebrae-harris-animator-mangaka-artist-entrepreneur/> Sebraé Harris<https://shoutoutla.com/meet-sebrae-harris-animator-mangaka-artist-entrepreneur/>. Definitely check out his work!
Until next (this?) month: sending warmth and light, as always! And given the temperature, a little bit of shade, too (though not the bad kind...)
Phoenix
Recommended book of the month: The Vermillion Speedateer, Sebraé Harris (2022)

We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
