<div dir="ltr"><div>Hello SEHE friends,</div><div>Our partners at CCAEJ passed this opportunity on, looking for student organizers at UCR to coordinate support for a SCAQMD rule regulating industrial boilers. See below and share with potentially interested students:</div><div><br></div><div><span style="border:0px;font-family:"gg sans","Noto Sans","Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:0px">Right now, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is weighing new rules on industrial gas boilers, and they are planning to consider them in the first quarter of next year. This is a big fight and student voices can make a difference, especially since 10% of the affected units are at universities, and since UCR is the university with the second-highest amount of possible emissions from these boilers in the South Coast region. UCR is also critical to these rules as Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson is a Board Member at SCAQMD and will vote on these proposed rules.
We’re inviting student organizations across Southern California to:
• Co-sponsor a resolution in student government urging stronger AQMD rules
• Mobilize students to attend AQMD hearings and testify
• Share student stories about the health and climate impacts of air pollution
• Publicize our campaign through social media, campus media, and events
We want and need student leaders to get involved with climate leadership at the local and regional level, so we're offering $1,000 fellowships for students to do this work.
