<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div>Dear SEHE friends,</div><div>I'm really excited to share that SEHE visiting scholar Izabel Barros will give a research talk on declolonial feminism and anti-racist activism in Brazil and Switzerland, this <b>Wednesday 5/21 11am-12:20pm in INTN 3023</b>.</div><div>Izabel Barros is a historian, decolonial feminist and anti-racist activist in Brazil and Switzerland. She is an FNS PhD candidate in history in the project "Moral and Economic Entrepreneurship in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. A Collaborative History of Global Switzerland, c. 1830-1900" (IEP-UNIL). From 2020 to mid-2022, she was programme officer for feminist peace politics at cfd, the Feminist Peace Organisation. From 2013 to 2020, she was a researcher in Switzerland and programme manager for Brazil at the Cooperaxion Foundation. In Maranhão (Brazil), she worked with local civil society organisations, Quilombo and Indigenous communities who fight for the defence of their territory and self-determination. She is active in the collectives Taoca, Livingroom and Berner Rassismusstammtisch. She has also overseen numerous cultural and artistic initiatives, including Wie die Geranie nach Bern verschleppt wurde (2020), We Talk. Switzerland Unfiltered (2021) and Das Wandbild muss Weg! (since 2021).</div><div>We'll have light refreshments. I hope that you and your students can join!</div><div><img src="cid:ii_mauntmdq0" alt="Izabel Barros Flyer.png" width="419" height="542"><br></div><div><br></div><span class="gmail_signature_prefix">-- </span><br><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr">Dana Simmons<div>Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Society, Environment and Health Equity</div><div>Cooperating Faculty, Department of History</div><div>University of California, Riverside</div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://www.ucpress.edu/books/on-hunger/paper" target="_blank">On Hunger: Violence and Craving in America from Starvation to Ozempic</a> available May 13 from UC Press (Open Access)</div></div></div></div>
