an educational nonprofit that aims to reimagine the liberal arts and
cultivate democratic citizenship for a changing planet. We briefly
exchanged emails this time last year about opportunities for UC Riverside
students at the Gull Island Institute.

I’m reaching out to let you know that applications are now open for the
2026 Gull Summer Term, our tuition-free, month-long *undergraduate liberal
arts program

As a reminder, the Gull Summer Term is a place-based liberal arts program
for current and recent undergraduate students interested in what it means
to engage in democratic citizenship amidst social and ecological upheaval.
Through transdisciplinary daily seminars, labor projects, and
self-governance, students explore critical questions about life on a
changing planet: what is a right relation to the land and water? What makes
a place habitable, and what does it mean to inhabit it well?

I’ve attached a flyer about the program, and I’m happy to send you an email
announcement that you can forward to interested faculty, departments, or
students. Please spread the word! Students from all disciplines and majors
are encouraged to apply.
