Greetings, SEHE affiliates,
SEHE is hosting two art events this week:
The first is an *Art & Craft Study Break tomorrow, 1-2pm in INTN 3023*.
We'll have all the materials for drawing, paining, collaging; you and your
students are invited to come hang out and make art together. It's mostly a
space for us to hang out. We do have a prompt, which is to create
affirmations for trans and immigrant folks at UCR. We hope to post them in
Watkins in light of the recent anti-trans attack there. So much pride and
gratitude to our SEHE affiliates in Anthropology who responded to that
attack with courage and kindness.
All are welcome, staff, faculty, students, TAs!
We're serving lunch, too.
The second is just for SEHE faculty, affiliates and collaborators. Artist
Cynthia Huerta is leading a *workshop on Art as Research Method on Friday
3/7 11am-12pm* at the Center for Ideas and Society.
Cynthia Huerta is a Mexican-American Multidisciplinary Community Artist,
Curator, and Advocate has been servicing Southern California's communities
for over 18 years. Her mediums include: painting, watercolor, muraling,
sculpture, drawing printmaking, mosaic and pyrography. She has partnered
with UCR School of Medicine, Cal State San Bernardino, UCR Undocumented
Student Programs, Teaching Residents at Teachers Collage though Columbia
University, Google, Success in Motion and many more. Her personal and
public art always centers the BIPOC community. Whether that entails
creating with community, curating shows featuring BIPOCC artist, or
organizing events and art workshops that provide a reprieve and joy.
All materials provided! Please let me know if you are able to attend. Staff
and TAs are welcome too.
Finally, please share this opportunity with your students: SEHE and the
Latinxs & the Environment Seminar are hosting the Career Center for a *Resume
and Cover Letter Writing workshop Wednesday 3/5 3:30-5pm*. We want to help
students put their best face forward when applying for summer internships,
jobs and other opportunities. Students can workshop their resumes, learn
tips from the Career Center and enjoy refreshments.
I wish you a good week 9!
Dana
