The deadline for the *Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative
at the University of Illinois Chicago is coming up soon!*

The Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative at the University
of Illinois Chicago seeks

applicants for its Summer Institute in U.S. Latino/a/x/e Humanities Studies
Methodologies and

Theories. The CFA is open to all. Eligible doctoral applicants *must* have
completed their *second* or *third*

*year* in humanities and humanistic social science PhD programs, not yet be
ABD by May 2025, and

planning to develop dissertations with a *U.S. Latino/a/x/e focus*. If in
an *MA/PhD program*, applicants

must have completed *their third or fourth year* by May 2025. *Doctoral
Students working on Latin

American Dissertation topics are not eligible apply*



The Summer Institute is an intense in-person pre-doctoral training program
which prepares participants

to consider dissertation topics and to draft a dissertation proposal.
Participants commit to attend virtual

Professionalization Workshops and Speaker Series events during the fall of
2025 and spring of 2026.

Each participant receives a $3,000 stipend to cover travel, a few meals not
offered by the institute, and

other minor incidental and expenses incurred while attending. Housing is
provided in shared

apartments on the UIC campus as well as most of the meals.



With this application, you may also be considered for a *9-month Crossing
Latinidades Mellon*

*Predoctoral Research Fellowship* which carries a stipend of $30,000,
tuition waiver and health

insurance at your university. This fellowship is in addition to any other
financial arrangements you may

already have at your university. Stipends are paid directly to fellows.



To be eligible, you must meet all eligibility requirements, year standing
in PhD, successfully complete

the Summer Institute and commit to participate in a Humanities research
project with a faculty research

mentor university conducting research 15-hours per week. You must forego
any other employment

such as TAships, GRAships, university hourly employment or other, or
outside employment, etc.



*Application deadline: February 1, 2025*
