[Sehefac] Jade's book is excerpted in the LA Times with an article about UCR students!!

Dear SEHE affiliates,
I'm thrilled to share that Jade's book was excerpted in the LA Times this
morning, alongside a lovely article that speaks to some of the core issues
that she raises. This is such a timely appearance, as the wildfires remind
us again how tenuous our relation is to the land (and recall the scene that
opens Jade's book, watching fires creep closer to her neighborhood).

The essay, by Times writer Rosana Xia, describes the powerful moment when
discussion about climate anxiety exploded in Jade's class, shifting her
perception of this issue and opening the research that led to the book. Xia
profiles UCR students and alums who are doing climate justice work in
Southern California.
“'For me, this work is a matter of survival', said Kevin J. Patel, who grew
up in South L.A. and has been fighting for climate justice since he was 11.
...'It’s not about what I need, it’s about what my community needs,” he
said. “There is joy in caring for one another. There is joy in coming
together to fight for a future that we believe in.'"
