We are excited to announce that, for the first time, Humans & Nature Press
is opening up a call for proposals for single-author book manuscripts.

The Center for Humans & Nature is home to a press and farm that explore
in-depth and diverse perspectives about what it means to be human in an
interconnected world. We are looking for manuscripts that speak to the
Center’s mission:* to explore and promote human responsibilities in
relation to nature—the whole community of life.*

*Humans & Nature Press*

For our call, Humans & Nature Press is seeking proposals for single-authorbook
manuscripts that are socially relevant, emotionally compelling, creatively
written, and critically discerning, which feature vivid storytelling and
engage the empathic imaginations of readers.

Manuscript proposals that receive consideration would typically be
categorized as *creative nonfiction*.

Humans & Nature Press offers a unique space as a publisher, supporting work
that holistically engages social and natural systems—land as a community to
which we belong—while honoring and attending to more-than-human lifeworlds.
We embrace the experimental and the experiential, and we seek manuscripts
that integrate creativity and intellectual rigor through storytelling that
invites readers into *thinking* that is also *doing*.

The books branch of Humans & Nature Press is a newly fledged press, with
two multi-volume series under own our imprint: the award-winning *Kinship:
Belonging in a World of Relations*

 series and the forthcoming *Elementals*

 series (September 2024). A single-volume edited collection entitled *Sensoria:
Attending to the Wonder and Vitality of Nature *is expected in 2025.

Humans & Nature Press is open to direct submissions from authors for a
two-month period, *beginning September 30, 2024 at 9am Pacific and closing
November 25, 2024 at 11:59pm Pacific.* Agents are also welcome to submit to
the publisher at this time.

*Elementals*, the second book series published by Humans & Nature Press

offers essays, poetry, and stories that illuminate the dynamic
relationships between people and place, human and nonhuman life, mind and
the material world, and the living energies that make all life possible.

*Elementals* asks: What can the vital forces of Earth, Air, Water, and Fire
teach us about being human in a more-than-human world?

*Elementals* is edited by Gavin Van Horn and Bruce Jennings with poetry
editors Nickole Brown and Craig Santos Perez. With over 90 contributors,
the series explores how people from various cultures across the planet have
worked with these powerful forces of change and regeneration to shape
landscapes and deepen personal and place-based relationships.
