Thanks to Evelyn and to you, Chikako, for being there (though I am really
sorry I missed you!).
And thanks are due to SEHE for supporting several educators' panels and
convenings through our NEH grant (the one from last year). The K-16 session
and affinity group convening for teachers interested in environmental
justice and ethnic studies curriculum had terrific attendance and
engagement. Teachers were very interested in creating pathways between K-12
and our new SEHE department, and especially in finding ways to share
knowledge of local resources for Ethnic Studies curriculum. Unlike the
convening in the fall that we held with many community college faculty in
attendance, this time the focus was on building curriculum and creating
alliances for localizing how we teach across the board. Very soon I will
share with you lesson plans created by high school teachers on issues of
logistics, land use, and more. We plan to meet over the summer with
Riverside County Office of Education, teachers and teacher trainers to do
more, and I'll be sending out a plea after the quarter is over for
accessible EJ and public-health related primary and secondary source
materials to share with teachers.
The conference got some radio/KVCR coverage, too, which is here

.
I am so grateful to SEHE!!
Best,
Cathy
