Hello!
My name is Blanca Garcia-Barron and I am the Public History & Exhibits
Coordinator here at the Civil Rights Institute of Inland Southern
California. I am reaching out
to let you know of our new exhibit, Working Coachella: Images of the
farmworker community of the Coachella Valley. We would love to have you and
your students back in for a tour. Let me know if you'd like to schedule one
out. We think you will find this exhibit incredibly valuable.
The new exhibit is up now until early May. Below is a description and
details of the exhibit.
Working Coachella: Images of the farmworker community of the Coachella
Valley, on display from January 2024 to early May 2024 is the result of 30
years of work by noted photojournalist David Bacon. It focuses on the
lives, struggles, and resilience of farmworkers and their families in the
Coachella Valley. The project’s mission is to use photographs and narrative
oral histories to reduce anti-immigrant discrimination, and to help win
respect for the culture and labor of the farmworkers who produce the food
we eat. One of the communities this exhibit focuses on are P’urhépecha
migrants from Michoacán, México and adds a unique Indigenous perspective to
farmworker narratives and histories.
We can accommodate tour groups of approximately 35 at a time. The tours
last about 30 minutes and we encourage leaving 15 minutes at the end for
everyone to explore the exhibit and audio visual materials.
We're incredibly excited and proud of our new project. If you have any
questions, feel free to reply to this email.
Hoping to see you, your students, and/or colleagues back in here again!
Have a great day,
--
