Dear SEHE affiliates,
We need to call on you for help.
On February 27 (1-3pm via zoom), the Academic Senate will vote on our
undergraduate program proposals for a BA and minor in Environmental
Studies, and a BA and minor in Global and Community Health.
Would you be willing to* send the email below to your faculty friends *and
ask them to confirm their willingness to attend and vote for us?
We know that there will be some objections, and every vote counts.
Also, this can serve as a reminder to mark your calendars for our* SEHE
meetup on Thursday February 22, 4:30-6pm* at the Stable (Barn). There will
be stickers....
Thank you so very much for your continuing collaboration and support!
Dana

Dear [Name/ friends],

I'm writing to ask whether you would consider voting in favor of two new
degree programs in the Department of Society, Environment and Health Equity
at the Academic Senate Divisional meeting on February 27 (via zoom, 1-3pm).

One year after approving the creation of the SEHE Department, the Academic
Senate will vote on SEHE’s proposals for a BA in Environmental Studies and
a BA Global and Community Health (as well as minors in both). These
proposals offer CHASS students a meaningful program of study in the arts,
humanities, and social sciences that is relevant to their careers, Inland
Empire communities, and the future health of our planet. With the
Environmental Studies degree program, UCR will join five other UCs that
already offer interdisciplinary environmental studies undergraduate majors.
Environmental Studies is a vibrant and well-established field of the arts,
humanities and social sciences, and it is time for UCR to offer this course
of study to our students. SEHE is innovative in bridging environmental
studies and health equity. The Global and Community Health major will offer
students critical arts, humanities and social science perspectives on
health inequities, health justice and the social determinants of health.
SEHE graduates from these two degree programs will be ready to enter a
growing workforce in environment and health, and graduate training in
public policy, business, city planning, public health and related fields.

You can read our proposals for the Environmental Studies major

and our Global and Community Health major

here. We welcome collaborations with colleagues in CHASS and all across
UCR, and we are grateful to our faculty affiliates in multiple schools and
colleges including CNAS, BCOE and SPP. If you are interested in becoming
involved in these initiatives, or in receiving our newsletter, please let
me know. You can follow us on Instagram here: @sehe_ucr.

Can I count on you to attend the Senate Divisional meeting on Tuesday,
February 27 and vote to support the new department?

Please respond to let me know if you are able to attend the meeting and
vote in favor of our proposals. We know that some objections are likely, so
every vote counts!

SEHE would like to invite you to join us at our social hour for UCR faculty
at The Stable on February 22 from 4:30-6pm, to talk about the proposals and
enjoy the company.

Come and get your new SEHE sticker!

Sincerely,

[you]
