Hello all,

As you many know Earth Day is upon us, and the UCR Office of Sustainability
is hosting a variety of programs. We’d like to invite you and your students
to attend some of them throughout April. Find the full list of programs
here: https://sustainability.ucr.edu/earthmonth2024

We’d like to highlight one event that may be of particular interest to you,
your students, or your classes.

   - *Event*: Climate Action Simulation
   - *Description:* EN-ROADS <https://www.climateinteractive.org/en-roads/>
is a free online simulation model from Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan
Sustainability Initiative which is grounded in the best available science
on climate impacts and solutions. The purpose of this workshop is to
educate students, staff, faculty and others in various fields about the
intricacies affecting climate change. This workshop will be hosted by
Office of Sustainability and our guest speaker, Polly Estabrook who retired
from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2022 to concentrate on meeting the
climate challenge and reducing its negative impacts as much as possible.
Register for the Climate Action Simulation Workshop here.
   see Polly's LinkedIn profile here
   https://www.linkedin.com/in/polly-estabrook-b90787/
<https://ucr.zoom.us/s/93233738248>. Additionally, David Giron will be
attending to provide real world insight into climate action and policy
implementation. David’s policy work led him to become the lead staffer on
the City Council’s Energy and Environment Committee, which resulted in the
landmark LA100 plan, a nation-leading policy that will make the City of Los
Angeles use 100% carbon-free energy by 2035. David’s work has resulted in
the City getting serious and focused on greatly expanding electric vehicle
infrastructure and solar + battery energy on buildings citywide. David
also worked on the fight to eliminate oil rigs and drilling in Los Angeles,
ensuring even more carbon emission protections for the public and our most
vulnerable communities. While David ran the City Council’s Energy and
Environment Committee, the Council adopted the Styrofoam and plastics
elimination policy, which is in the process of being implemented.
   - *Date: *Tuesday April 16, 2024: 10:30am - 12:00pm
   - *Location:* Alumni Center Johnson Boardroom (& Zoom)
