Dear Highlanders,

As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers.

Here are some events planned for May that we encourage campus staff to
participate in, recognize colleagues, or simply enjoy some fun. We hope you

Spring Quarterly Meeting (5/13)

Outstanding Staff Awards Nominations (Due 5/15)

The Outstanding Staff Awards

annually to recognize excellence across five distinct categories, ranging
from the Tartan Soul Award, Staff Who Make a Difference Award, People
Helping People Award, Diversity Award, and the Mary Johnson Outstanding
Retiree Award. All staff members are eligible for recognition and are
encouraged to nominate their colleagues for making a meaningful impact
within the community.

UCR Staff Assembly Virtual Bingo (5/15)

Join Staff Assembly’s volunteer Laura Cantrell and other members of the
Staff Assembly Executive Board for monthly Virtual Bingo

funding opportunities specifically for UCR staff.

Also joining the conversation will be a panel of UCR colleagues who
successfully navigated their graduate programs while working full-time;
they will be on hand to share their firsthand experiences and tips for
balancing professional and academic life.

111 Years of Entomology Research, Education and Discovery (5/29)

We are throwing a "something to buzz about" event and you are invited to
join the swarm at the UCR University Theatre from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, the
Bug Fest: Featuring our popular Touch-a-Bug station, and from 6:00 PM –
7:00 PM, Something to Buzz About: A special presentation on 111 years of
