Letter from Dennis McIver, Staff Assembly President

As we conclude the 2020-21 term, a word that has remained omnipresent for me since day one is gratitude.

My time as President of Staff Assembly has been among the most impactful on my life and I am very grateful to have led the organization this year. However, there's no question that many people contributed to all of our successes this year. Considering all of this, I would like to take a moment to extend gratitude to a few people that came to mind:

- Thank you to the many partners we have had an opportunity to collaborate with over the past eleven months. I've enjoyed the many partners (old and new) who have been strong collaborators over the past year, including UCRRA<https://emeriti-retirees.ucr.edu/retirees-association>, LEAD<http://lead.ucr.edu/>, EOD<https://hr.ucr.edu/employee-and-organizational-development>, BFASA<https://diversity.ucr.edu/black-faculty-and-staff-association> and our off campus friends such as CUCSA<http://cucsa.ucla.edu/> and UCOP<https://www.ucop.edu/staff-assembly/> and UCLA Staff Assemblies<https://staffassembly.ucla.edu/>.

- Thank you to senior management who have made every opportunity to engage with us as we navigated this new space we are in together. A special spotlight to all the senior managers who submitted videos during Thank Goodness For Staff Week<https://www.facebook.com/watch/255122481861/308086864256116/>.

- Thank you and congratulations again to Chancellor Wilcox and Seana Nunez, who both received system level recognition from the Council of UC Staff Assemblies this year<https://insideucr.ucr.edu/awards/2021/05/25/systemwide-group-honors-chancellor-and-ucr-trainer?fbclid=IwAR06p9f3LNdVLitszLkXZpy9L-jwoia5qdyd_VsG4VcPf8fDou4fMzuMg4c>. It has been a privilege to work with you both this year.

- Thank you to the amazing and inspired Executive Board for this year<https://staffassembly.ucr.edu/staff-assembly-executive-board> who found every possible way to keep staff members inspired and informed in the online environment this year. No member joined this year with this in mind, but you have exceeded expectations since day one. UCR is better for your collective service. I would like to also thank the Past Presidents' Council for their critical support this year as well.

- Finally (and most importantly), thank YOU for your engagement over this year. Thank you for playing our bingo, attending the UCR Staff Conference, participating in Thank Goodness For Staff Week, and for recognizing each other through Get Recognized and our Outstanding Staff Awards (still accepting nominations!). Your collective service to UCR and engagement is why we are doing what we do.

Despite all this year's uncertainty, I conclude this term hopeful of our fall return and beyond. I hope we have helped to make this year a little better for you one program at a time. I hope you'll continue to provide this support to Jeff Girod, who takes over as President on July 1st. Having seen his work, there's no question you'll be proud of what he does for you and UCR next year. I know I already am.
