Letter from Jeff Girod, Staff Assembly President
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the 2021 UC Staff Engagement Survey! UCR led all campuses with a response rate of 64%, which was an increase of 10% from 2019. We look forward to using this feedback to improve the staff experience at UCR.
Additionally, please join us in welcoming the Staff Assembly 2020-21 Executive Board<https://staffassembly.ucr.edu/staff-assembly-executive-board>.

ASUCR’S STUDENT VOICE COMMITTEE
Case Studies on Inclusivity & Experiences with Chat Services
Mark Hanin, director and vice-chair of ASUCR’s Student Voice Committee, conducted two case studies<https://drive.google.com/file/d/18_UPgpEBS00BjReMGtQ8b3zZ9n6OgLmQ/view?usp=sharing> during the 2020-2021 academic year, the results of which he shared with the University Honors department in June 2021. The Student Voice Committee is the sole, non-political committee under ASUCR dedicated to representing student voices on campus. They do so by conducting research, surveys, and case studies on students' experiences at UC Riverside.
The first cast study sought to understand the academic and inclusivity experiences of students at UCR<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VMfpipKJ54zkqrfD-g6TPJX42Lw0n2cG/view?usp=sharing> and what changes students hope to see at the administrative level. Students were asked to evaluate how diverse UCR is, from having a diverse array of classes offered to having a diverse staff, in addition to offering insight on how their academic experience has been as a whole at UCR.
The second aimed to understand the experiences of students with group chat services<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JIjbte8m9nos7uM-rVS6v7XN-c-r8QvD/view?usp=sharing>, how they benefit from them and whether they should be retained come fall quarter 2021, especially as students have so heavily relied on group chat services over the past academic year.
Hanin also published this blog post<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XgB8X0-hsWYRHqeAhNB3RJScjQoGzFrb/view?usp=sharing>, summarizing the results of the two case studies and providing commentary, from a student's perspective, on what the committee hopes that faculty, staff, and administrators will glean from their findings.
Hanin invited those with questions to email him at mhani003 at ucr.edu<mailto:mhani003 at ucr.edu>.
