Letter from Dennis McIver, Staff Assembly President

Welcome to 2021!

As the 2020-21 Staff Assembly Executive Board enters the second half of its term, we want to spotlight a few things that have been accomplished during our first six months:

*        Created monthly celebrations for staff in an expanded format

*        Created a monthly professional development series for staff

*        Piloted a successful staff mentoring program that will be expanded in spring 2021, in conjunction with other campus partners

*        Transitioned our holiday celebration into a week-long format

*        Developed an antiracism book club and completed two books

*        Advocated for UCR during the UC Board of Regents systemwide meeting in November

*        Virtually represented UCR during the December meeting of the Council of UC Staff Assemblies

*        Created a monthly virtual bingo session that engages UCR and multiple other UCs (UCOP/UCPath/UCDC, UCSB and UCSF)

Staff Assembly offers a range of opportunities to help you with your resolutions in 2021. Whether you wish to improve your healthy habits through Mission Possible 6<https://hr.ucr.edu/event-list/2021/01/13/mission-possible-6-kickoff>, or develop as a professional through UCR's inaugural Staff Conference in March, we are eager to provide you chances to grow.

If you find yourself inspired by our work, please consider applying to join the Staff Assembly Executive Board for the 2021-22 year. It provides an amazing chance to grow and engage our campus in meaningful ways. More details will be available during the February General Meeting.

Staff Assembly Hosts First Holiday Event Week

Staff Assembly hosted the first virtual Holiday Event Week! Our Co-Directors of Events, Val and Ashley found an innovative way to transition the yearly holiday celebration into a week of events that everyone could enjoy. Each day members of the Staff Assembly Executive board hosted a fun filled, holiday themed event including crafts, games, trivia, a special cocktail hour and special bingo sessions. We thank all of you for your participation and look forward to seeing you at more of our events.

Giving Tuesday

Last month Staff Assembly participated in the annual Giving Tuesday event and were able to raise over $500. As an organization led and managed by UCR staff, every donation will be used to keep UCR's staff empowered, engaged and connected through virtual planning such as:
*        Book club activities on antiracism
*        Lunch 'n' Learns
*        Pictionary with UCR Senior Leadership
*        Virtual Bingo
*        Trivia contests

Scholarship Deadline
Staff Assembly offers scholarships that can be used to help offset the costs of professional development programs or higher education degrees.
Scholarships are available to career staff employees who have completed their probation period and are limited to a maximum of $250 per employee per academic year, between Sept. 1 and August 31. There is a limit of one application per scholarship type, per person, per academic year. Make sure you apply today!
