Letter from Dennis McIver, Staff Assembly President
Greetings,
As we conclude the year 2020, I have reflected quite a lot on the past year. In many ways, the last twelve months marks a distinct difference in how we work, how we lead and how we educate on campus. I continue to be deeply impressed with UCR's ability to maintain its level of service in uncertain and stressful times.
In consideration of this, I'm pleased to say the Staff Assembly Executive Board has been no different. Over the past six months, the Executive Board has collectively done remarkable work in maintaining its support efforts, while using these unique circumstances to create new ones. I'd like to share a summary of Staff Assembly's accomplishments.
1. Amended our recurring communications to a more user friendly and purposeful format
2. Created monthly programming in professional development
3. Gave critical support to the creation of a new mentoring program for staff members
4. Spoke to campus and system level entities including the Chancellor, CUCSA Executive Board, Staff Advisor to the Regents and UC Regent Janet Reilly
5. Answered the call to serve on campus level committees
6. Completed Staff Assembly's first Virtual 5k
7. Shifted traditional events including our costume contest and Get Recognized to an online format
8. Successfully held a fall general meeting (with more than 400 participants!)
9. Created new monthly events including Virtual Bingo (which services three UC locations) and Pictionary
10. Created a book club for those interested in the work of antiracism
11. Began establishing new partnerships on and off campus with groups such as the UCR Retiree Association
12. Advocated for UCR before the Board of Regents
Although 2020 has presented its own unique challenges, I couldn't be any more pleased with the efforts of the Executive Board to continue uplifting and empowering UCR's staff. I am beyond proud of each Board member and am sure their thankless work will continue over the rest of the academic year.
On behalf of the Staff Assembly Executive Board, I hope that you have a wonderful rest of the year and look forward to continue serving you in 2021.
